Lance is retiring in a week and the moment is truly surreal. So much has changed it seems in so little time. It just seemed like yesterday when he was sent to plant a church in New York and then ends up pioneering a region. He became an influence in my life when change and challenge were calling my name when we received the call to plant a church. Little did I know that this season would be the crucible of my life thus far. During this season Lance came with words of encouragement and the grace of one who had also been through it, you can only appreciate the words change is hard but worth the struggle, after the struggle.
2 Corinthians 3:18
18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
Change is really transformation, the process of becoming more like Jesus, through love, grace and discipline to love even more. The work of transformation, the soul work, is a truly not a task for the faint of will. The only thing worse is how your soul dies from the toxicity of apathy and stagnation. I remember one day Lance looked at me just outside his office and said, you just get up every day and choose life, he was right; and while you're at it, choose a life abundant.
